Jesus was a man who lived about 2000 years ago, in Israel. From the age of 30 he caused quite a stir by speaking about God and by the things he did.
His words and actions brought him into conflict with the authorities and eventually they put him to death. But his followers said he proved his claims not only to lead people to God but himself to be God, by rising again from the dead and showing himself alive again.
2000 years later over one fifth of the world's population still believe that he is God, and that he wants a personal relationship with those who follow him.
