What is the Bible all about?

FAQs (012)

The Bible is the account of how God reveals himself to people.

Among the wide variety of themes and stories one is predominant - that God loves people and has sent his Son to restore the relationship between himself and us that was broken.

This central theme gives an overall unity to the whole of the Bible. It appears again and again in the accounts of the lives of individuals, groups and nations; it is there in the lists of laws; it underlies the records of historical events; we learn of it through the example of the Biblical characters; it is emphasised particularly in the life of Jesus and his teaching.

The Bible deals with all aspects of life; you will find expressions of happiness and despair, victory and defeat, success and failure. The writers cover hundreds of topics including birth and death, faith and belief, God and Satan, work and pleasure, judgement and rewards, marriage and divorce, love and sex, family and singleness, good and evil, beginnings and endings, heaven and hell and much more.

But through it all shines the character of God and his desire to love, and be loved by, you and me.
