Do you have to go to church to be a Christian?

FAQs (022)

Can you play football without belonging to a team? Well, yes you can play with a ball in the street or your back yard. But the essence of many games is to be part of a team. In a similar way, being a Christian is a team activity.

The Bible knows nothing of an individualistic faith. We each make a personal response to God's call but as soon as we do he brings us into his family, drafts us into his army, builds us into his temple, and makes us part of his body, all pictures the Bible uses for the church.

We do not simply go to church; as Christians we ARE the church. By trying to live the Christian life alone we miss out on the help others can give us, and we deny them the help that we could give them. God intends us to be together. Even so there may be times when we are prevented from being involved in a local congregation, due to illness or essential duties for example.
