How do we know there is a God?
FAQs (005)
The main reason we know there is a God is because Jesus came to reveal God to us. But there are also several other reasons.
- God made us in his image. In some way
we bear the marks of the one who made us. Therefore in every group,
tribe or nation people have had a sense that there is a being 'bigger
than us'. This is a very vague sense but one that most people have
recognised at one time or another.
- This sense of God is
closely linked with Creation. All around us we see the world, the
universe that God made. Creation reveals many aspects of God's
character - his power, his wisdom in design, his care for everything,
his sustaining control, his planning, his glory and greatness. The
Bible says that we have no excuse for not worshipping God because we
see the creation he has made
(Romans 1 v 20-23).
- But despite all of this we would still know very little about God himself if it were not for Jesus. God himself became a man, Jesus, and lived among us. He showed us God's love, his fatherhood, the relationship he wants with us, and his care for us as individuals.
How do we know there is a God? Jesus shows him to us.
